Emulsion Emulation is a photographic series that examines the digital re-appropriation of analog media aesthetics, reflecting on how past technologies are continually revived and repurposed in contemporary digital contexts. Through filters and effects available on platforms like Instagram, Adobe, and VSCO, the series captures the simulated qualities of analog media—film grain, scratches, faded colors, and vignettes—that evoke a nostalgic longing for previous eras of visual culture. These digitally generated artifacts serve as emulations, allowing new media to imitate the aesthetic qualities of older formats, creating a layered experience where the past is constantly reinterpreted through the lens of modern technology.

In re-staging these analog elements, Emulsion Emulation highlights the phenomenon of media nostalgia, where the look and feel of outdated technologies are reintroduced, modified, and circulated within digital spaces. This project speaks to the cyclical nature of media aesthetics, where each wave of technology inherits and redefines what came before it. By presenting analog qualities through digital means, Emulsion Emulation invites viewers to reflect on the enduring influence of analog media on contemporary digital culture and questions what it means to continually reimagine the past within the frameworks of ever-evolving technology.
